The content management system 'QwikZite' at a glance

  • For enlarged view of the screenshots below, click on the images.
  • Examples of operational sites and of working with multiple sitestyles can be viewed on www.qwikzite.com.
  • An extensive manual, tips and tricks, and other information for users of the CMS Qwikzite can be found on www.qwikzite.net.

Backend: the QZAdmin

The 'backend' of QwikZite is formed by secured screens, the QZAdmin, in which the contents of the site can be maintained in a quick and simple way by several persons simultaneously. The interface is multilingual: English, Dutch and Papiamentu.
The data are stored in 9 tables: sitestyle, page, button, news, link, foto, file, topic and defaults.
The image shows the start menu of the table 'page', in which users can decide to edit a page or add a new page.
Frontend: the visible website

The 'frontend' of QwikZite is the public part of the site, visible on the web.
The principle is that the data from the different tables are retrieved here and presented together on one webpage.

Backend: Sitestyle

In the 'sitestyle' menu you can suit the design of the site to your own preferences: use of colors, fonts, backgrounds, sizes, logo, etc. You can also use or adapt the included sitestyle models.
Design properties can be set on 4 levels, starting with the joint properties of all areas of the web page, and ending into very small details. In this way you can test and adjust the design of the whole web page or specific parts very quickly.
Frontend: Sitestyle

You can make a 'simple' site, with one sitestyle for all pages, easily to change periodically. You can make a 'complex' site, with multiple sitestyles. And you can even make an 'open' site, where visitors have the option to choose a sitestyle.
The image shows the same webpage as the previous image, turned in another style by one simple click.

Backend: Page

The body content and titles of the webpages are edited in the 'page' menu, with a default option to add an image.
You can choose a fixed sitestyle for the page, or indicate that the page shall be displayed in the default sitestyle of the website.
Frontend: Page

The body content is displayed in the middle part of the webpage.
The width of this middle part is automatically adjusted to the screen resolution of the visitor.

Backend: Button

In the 'button' menu, text-oriented buttons are made to refer to the various pages.
Multiple sets of buttons can be compiled if you want to sectionalize your site.
Frontend: Button

The buttons are displayed in the left part of the screen.
The image shows the set of buttons employed in the Dutch language section of www.qwikzite.com.

Backend: News

News items or similar extra information can be added to the webpage in the 'News' menu.
Frontend: News

The short versions of news items are displayed in the right part of the screen.
There is a wide range of options:

You can make items to appear or disappear at the frontend at predefined dates.
You can show items on all pages or link them up with specific pages.

The so-called 'short text' is visible in the page screen concerned.
But you can also add an extensive 'long text', which is displayed in a new screen, the 'news page'. The long text has a default option for adding an image.

By clicking on the short text, the long version of the news item is opened in the news page screen. A list of all news items is included below. The news page title in top is adjustable.

Backend: Link

In the 'Link' menu, hyperlinks can be added to complete the information in the body content of the webpage.
You can show the hyperlinks on all pages or link them up with specific pages.
A description can be added, and a default option is present for adding a small image such as a logo.
Frontend: Link

The list of hyperlinks is displayed at the bottom of the middle area of the webpage.

Backend: Foto

Beside the default images at certain places, additional images can be added to the webpage.
In a first step, image files can be uploaded to the site through the 'Foto' menu.
In a second step, so-called HTML code, refering to the image file, is pasted in the text to make the image visible.
Frontend: Foto

At any place in QwikZite texts, additional images can be added.

Backend: File

Through the 'File' menu, downloadable files can be added to the 'File' table: documents and other files that visitors of the site can download.
At any place in the text of the webpage, references to downloadable files can be inserted by using HTML code.
Backend: Topic

In the 'Topic' menu, a subject/topic can be linked up with a page, to offer a more practical and friendly alternative for the often extensive URL's. This webpage, for instance, can be simply accessed at the URL "http://www.janveuger.com/module-website" instead of "http://www.janveuger.com/index.php?page_id=45".

Backend: Defaults

For the user's benefit, a default sitestyle and default news settings can be defined in the 'Defaults' menu. (The 'Page' en 'Sitestyle' menus have options to override these default options.)
As well, this menu covers several other basic settings: what page shall be the homepage, the site name to be shown in the title bar of the browser, keywords for recording by search engines, and more.

Some other functions in QwikZite
  • Pages, news items, hyperlinks and buttons included in the backend can be made visible or invisible at the frontend of the website at any time. This option offers opportunities such as adding draft texts to the site while not yet publicly accessible.
  • Inserting HTML text in QwikZite is possible, but because of the applied PHP scripts some adjustments may be necessary. Java scripts are not supported.
